Health Fair

The Coalition hosts health fairs conducting free breast and prostate cancer screening for underserved populations in Sacramento.  The first was held on Sep 26, 2009 in conjunction with Imani Clinic resulting in over 60 attendees receiving free cancer testing or free comprehensive vision testing and eyewear through onsite mobile eye clinic services provided by Vision Services Plan.  This initiative successfully reached a vulnerable hard to reach African American population achieving level of statistical significance in comparison with the clinic’s prior 9 months of operation, outcomes accepted for presentation at the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology, Oct 31-Nov 4, 2010; the abstract will be published as part of the meeting proceedings in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics, making it the first ever published effort of cancer screening conducted in the venue of a student-run clinic;
